How a bank robber makes bail

Suppose I robbed a bank of $1 million (they don’t usually carry that much cash, but I raided the safe deposit boxes, too.)  Later that same day, I reaped as much at another bank.  I repeated that every day, all my life, until — oops! — I got caught.

Think I’d be able to make bail?  (Hint: my gross take over a 70-year career was around $50bn.) So how come Bernie Madoff is walking around Manhattan?
